The Last American Frontier Frederic Logan Paxson Books Reviews

This account is very accessible to the lay reader, and the chapters can be read independently. A good, general overview for the non-academic reader.
I picked up an old beat-up copy of this book in a thrift store for $5 and have really found it to be a great read. The writng seems fresh even though written about 100 years ago or so. Each chapter is fairly short and, while linked to the rest of the book, can be read independently. Overall, the book provides a very useful historical context and overview of 19th Cenury American Frontier and the main dynamics and episodes leading to the inevitable closing of the West. Great read to provide overall context, background and insight to other more focused topics.
Very interesting book. Would recommend it.
